Chacos - Toe strap or no toe strap

Anonymous
This question is for the practical active ladies out there - I know these are considered ugly but I don’t care. I usually wear Birkenstocks in the summer but since I’m walking about an hour a day on hard surfaces want something better for that. I’ve heard Chacos are good. My question is, should I get the ones with a toe strap or not? Not concerned with aesthetics, just comfort and function. Thanks.

Curious too.

Yes I think so! I have them for hiking outside!

yes, toe strap if you are using them for active reasons, like hiking, canoeing, or rafting. The toe strap keeps your foot from sliding around, especially if they get wet. You do have to pull the straps around to get the perfect fit. And you do have to break them in like any other shoe. If you're not going to use them for something where your foot may slide around in the shoe, like hiking on uneven surfaces or canoeing, then you may not need the toe strap.

Also, you can buy the toe strap version of the shoe, and you can always just flatten the toe strap and step on it when youre not using the toe strap

No toe strap for me.

I found them to be VERY uncomfortable. I could never get the toe loop right. It strangled my toe. I watched a ton of videos.

I hate toe straps. Couldn’t get used to the feeling.

For hiking get the toe strap. It holds the sandal more securely to your foot. For casual wear either is fine

I have the toe strap version and wish I'd bought the non-TS version. The toe strap strangles my toes no matter how many times I've tried to adjust it. I wear them anyway and I am able to ignore the feeling after a minute or so, but if I were buying a new pair, I'd say no toe strap.

Exactly this. I wanted to love them and had bought them for a phase before kids of some serious hiking adventures. But they always strangled my toe.

OP - I don’t plan on hiking with these (never understood how people could stand the feeling of dirt under their feet!) but for city walking on sidewalks and pavement. Anyway sounds like no toe is the way to go. Thanks!

I have the toe strap, it does make me feel more secure but I have to say it’s very tight and I have small feet. I have to work them in and make sure the toe strap is on correctly otherwise it strangled my toe.

OP - one more question - they don’t have half sizes. I’m 6.5. Order up or down?

Get the bigger size. Definitely toe strap. Without it my foot moves
around too much.
