There are no restrictions for hiring a summer nanny, right? Where would you look to find one? What is the going rate for 2 school aged kids in this area? TIA! |
You are allowed to hire a nanny right now. The easy and affordable way: Look for a college student who has a clean driving record and good babysitting references. Offer her 15-20 per hour. Expect to have to help her structure her days. Voila.
It seems unlikely to find a "professional nanny" for just the summer months. They are likely looking for longer term positions. |
Yes |
Yes you can. We have a teacher who comes over a few days a week for a few hours. We hope to hire her full time for summer. |
OP here. Thanks PPs. Where do I find a college student? Where should I advertise? We moved here 6 months ago so sorry if I am clueless about this. The kids were in aftercare at school so I've never needed a nanny. |
Of course! |
Try the Next door neighbor online thing. |
Quadjobs.com |
Check with your school for teachers who might want a summer job. That's what I did. |
Does your neighborhood have a facebook group? My HOA does and I've seen many parents post looking for the same type of thing you're looking for. It seems to work well for parents to find summer sitters/college kids to find jobs. Ask your neighbors/co-workers. You never know who might have a family friend or niece/nephew who is looking for a childcare job this summer. |
No. None FB group. I don't think we are allowed to ask teachers from our school to babysit either. |
There's a nanny section on this discussion board and you can post looking for a nanny in DC, MD, or VA: https://www.dcurbanmom.com/nanny-forum/forums/list.page. I did find a good nanny share from this site a couple years ago.
You could also look at Care.com. I've heard mixed reviews but we found our current nanny (we left the nanny share a year ago for logistical reasons) there and she is GREAT. You can just do a month-long membership to find someone and then cancel, so it's not that expensive. |
Are you on facebook (or your spouse?) Are you "friends" with your neighbors/other parents from kid's school/sports, etc? Maybe just post something on your own Facebook page "Hi everyone! Jim and I are looking for summer childcare for the kids. We are hoping to find a college student that enjoys kids and playing outside. We'd need care starting June 1-August 15 and the hours would be 8 am-4:30 pm Mon-Friday. If anyone knows someone that might be interested, please get in touch!" |
My high school daughter made $20/hr do I'd be prepared to offer more.
