Pregnant and dental work

I'm 17 weeks pregnant and I think I have a cavity

Has anyone received dental care while pregnant? I plan on calling my dentist later this afternoon in hopes of scheduling an appointment.

Thanks all.

I’ve had routine cleanings at various stages over my two pregnancies, but nothing that required novocaine or anything. They’ll hopefully go easy on your gums, because hormones are hell on them.

I did twice. I was told to ask for the Lydocaine without preservatives. No issues.

Poor dental care can cause preterm labor, so good for you for staying on it!

I had a root canal earlier this year when I was just into the 2nd trimester. I broke a filling that couldnt be saved. They doubled me up on protective covers for x-rays and used a pregnancy safe numbing agent. I am so glad i did it. Just be clear with everyone working on you that they know you are pregnant.

You're actually supposed to schedule at least one dental appointment while pregnant because pregnancy does a number on your teeth. The fetus leaches calcium from your body to form its skeleton. My grandma had two teeth just fall out one day when she was pregnant with twins!

Maybe that explains my cereal craving. I consume so much milk these days via cereal.

Thanks all! I was able to schedule an appointment for Friday. I just had to get a note from my midwife noting it would be okay! Be well everyone!

It's fine. I broke a tooth and learned I would need an implant literally the same week I got a positive pregnancy test. So I had multiple dental procedures while pregnant and after the birth of the baby, it's totally safe!
