| We are new this year to travel soccer and then, of course, a pandemic hits. We've gotten a note that some kids will be moved to different teams and some of the coaches are switching teams (all within the same age group). Is this typical for travel teams that kids are moved around based on skill level? Or do teams usually stay together? This league seems to have kids together for one full year before re-assessing and potentially shuffling them around. This is all new to us so I don't know what the norm is and what's recommended in terms of skill development. TIA! |
| It is very normal to see lots of movement among teams in big club, and it should be so. And you rarely see the same coach the next year. |
Mobility is a sign of a pretty healthy club, and having different coaches (as long as they are good) is a really good thing for learning. More and different eyes help, just as with education. |
| I would expect more movement during the year also secondary to inadequate (or no) tryouts for the kids already at the club. |
| Dont be surprised if the fall season looks a lot the spring. (No practices and no games.) |

Players generally shuffle around a bit from year to year - sometimes (albeit more rarely) even intra-year.
Coaching changes vary by club. Some clubs have policies where a coach only stays with a team (or age group) for so long. There is also some coaching turnover each year at many clubs that can impact who coaches which team. In general there are more shifts during the younger ages, especially as the teams expand from 7v7 to 9v9 and 11v11. Hope that helps. |
