Backyard birds—what do you see?

I’m not a bird watcher, but regularly see cardinals, blue jays, red tailed hawks, what I think is a mockingbird. The other day saw some carrion vultures dealing with roadkill.

I’m definitely appreciate the birdsongs.

All of those, plus finches, wrens, crows, plus we’ve had the occasional blue bird, hummingbird, woodpecker, bald eagles in our yard. I love bird watching.

I saw a blue jay the other day. It was my first blue jay sighting. I was very excited. Normally see robins.

and hummingbirds should be arriving soon.

The grackles have invaded. We used to get a huge variety but they have taken over the feeder and the suet.

We have a popular bird feeder. We get cardinals, house finches, gold finches, catbirds, junco, chickadee, woodpeckers, doves, and bluejays. A few seem to be pairs which is fun. They are so greedy though: the feeder empties in days.

Most common:
Cardinals
Mourning doves
Blue jays
Robins
Crows
House finches (or are they house wrens?)
And a small black bird - maybe starling?

Today we watched a territorial battle between 2 catbirds and a crow. The cat birds kept dive bombing the crow. It was so cool to watch.

Our blue jays chase off the crows regularly. So funny to see the giant birds chased off.
