Did We Miss the Window?

Anonymous
We decided to wait until next year to apply for kindergarten. Did we miss the window of opportunity by not applying this year for pre-K? Many of our friends were successful this year. Some weren't successful, but at least expressed interest by applying (and probably have a leg up for next year). I know -- there's nothing we can do about it now. But we're feeling a bit of regret/anxiety already.

no. many people successfully apply for k, especially if you are coming from a good prek. you'll be fine i'm sure.

I'm sorry to be discouraging but as a family that applied only in K (moved recently to DC) and whose child was not accepted at any of the "top" DC schools, I do feel that we missed an important opportunity by not applying at pre-K. There are definitely more spots available at most schools, and I think a number of people make it in the second time around. Still, nothing to be done about it now!

I definitely don't think you missed the boat. Some great schools don't even have pre-ks so have lots of openings at K.
