Would you take your kids for a regular dental checkup/cleaning now? If not now, when? |
I'm taking my kids this week for the cleanings they missed in April. Problems will arise (cavities, etc) if we don't go, and I think as the weeks go on, the infection rate is going to surge. |
I’m taking my kid in for an orthodontist appointment this week - he was supposed to go in in late March, and I’m noticing signs of overcorrection (gap in teeth opening up). They called is in for thos week, and he’ll go. They have crazy strict protocols. For a regular checkup and cleaning, especially if it’s been less than a year, I wouldn’t go unless I had an issue. |
If you do, you’ll want to prepare them that it may be a little different from their previous dentist visits. It should be relatively safe, but there are lots of new things being done to make it that way.
Our family dentist sent out an email outlining their new procedures, and I’m guessing a lot of things they usually do to set kids at ease might be hard to manage right now. Hopefully pediatric dentists will figure out new ways to make up for not being able to see smiles or catch the warmth in a voice. |
Our dentist sent an email saying all magazines and toys have been removed from the waiting area. They said they'll try and keep wait times to a minimum but emphasized that patients arrive promptly as they are spacing out appointments more than usual. so sounds like they are taking a lot of precautions. |
Advice from medical professional, unless there is an issue, avoid routine dental care. Everything gets aerosolized at the dentist office. Think about it -- the sprayers they use to rinse your mouth and the suction tubes, spit in sinks (in older offices). It is almost impossible to clean everything thoroughly once it is aerosolized and lands all over the exam room. |
Why would anyone go for a cleaning now, go for nothing unless urgent dental care of course! |
I just pushed DD's appointment into June. Will probably end up postponing that as well, if things take at turn for the worse. The office actually called us to see if we wanted to reschedule, so I think that's probably what they're experiencing as well. |
My 6 month routine cleaning is supposed to be tomorrow, my dentist is not open but I wouldn't have gone. I will likely try to get my kids in for their check up in early August and might try to go back myself by then. But for now I would not go as cases are still climbing. I think by summer more providers will have figured out how to best operate safely. |
I’ve cancelled and will reschedule when I feel more comfortable with the risk. We brush and floss every day, I’m not concerned about missing cavities.
Of course if they complain about toothaches I would take them in. |
For an obvious issue, yes I’d take my son. Otherwise, no way. |
