Sexy / Beautiful outfit for Winter?

Anonymous
OK, I am a clueless 39 year old woman. My DH and I are going out to celebrate his 41st b-day this weekend and it suddenly hit me I have no idea what to wear. This happened last year also, and I threw togethor some outfit which I remember I wasn't really happy or comfortable with.

We are going to the Melting Pot, and we are walking (it's very close, but clothes and shoes need to be walkable). In the summer, I have a few skirts and capris that do the trick. But what on earth do you where in the winter for a dressy-casual date night? I know, this sound ridiculous, but I've just gotten more clueless as I get older. Keep in mind, it has to look decent on a decently in-shape, but showing her years, 39-year old woman.

I'm assuming I would have time to go out and buy something, so any suggestion is welcome. I'm only 5'3" and let's just call me "solid" (not overly thin, not overly fat). Budget is an issue, but I'm willing to hear all suggestions regardless of the price and make a call (if it is something that can be used over and over for date night, it may be worth a little investment)

Look at Anthropologie online - you might get some inspiration. I'm 40 and in your situation would probably wear a long skirt with boots or an interesting shirt/tshirt. They have some comfortable tshirts with flattering necklines. A fitted jacket with jeans would be nice.

I sympathize!

You can probably come up with something in your closet if put together right. Since you are going to Melting Pot, I'd focus on a washable top (I am guaranteed to drip something when I eat there!). Some ideas, inspired by a friend of mine who always looks great:
* cami or tank under a jacket (or just the jacket if it buttons at a place you can get away with in public)
* or cardigan, buttoned just enough to be decent

pair either of these with a statement necklace

wear with a pencil skirt and boots or nice pants over ankle boots (boots you can walk in).

Smoky eye, simple lip. And if you wear sexy lingerie underneath, he probably won't remember what you were wearing at dinner. ;->

I always find it advisable to wear loose-fitting pants when I go to the Melting Pot. Yum!
