good thai restaurant in Bethesda/Chevy Chase

Craving some good Thai food tonight. Any suggestions?

Probably too late of a suggestion for tonight, but if you're willing to go a few more miles, Nava Thai is Wheaton is fantastic.

Ben Jarong, Rockville. Not Bethesda but worth the extra ten minutes in the car.

Tara Thai is reliable, if very Americanized (sweeter and white meat chicken). A Thai acquaintance said Bangkok Gardens on Cordell was the only place reasonably "authentic", but I've never tried it. There is another place called (I think) Bangkok One on Cordell, next to Matuba, which is very good and homey.

Tara Thai. It's consistent and really delicious. Even better, they deliver! Can't speak to authentic, but it works for us.

Tara Thai is totally Americanized...meaning it is sticky sweet, very little heat, and strangely bland.

Honestly, for a real Thai experience, take the hike to Bangkok 54 in Arlington. You won't be disappointed!

...OP's request was for a place in Bethesda/Chevy Chase (see thread name). I agree with your assessment of Tara Thai, though I think it's tasty anyway.

Yes, I know, but my assertion is that there is no good place in Bethesda/Chevy Chase to have good Thai...and not to bother trying to find someplace around here because it doesn't exist.

If that's really your assertion, at least you could recommend a place like Nava Thai or Ruan Thai. It's not as if the closest "good Thai" is in Arlington.

Personally I like Sala Thai but that might be because it's the most convenient to me (and I am happy to concede it's been "Americanized").

Tara Thai is unbelievably bland (and I have very boring taste buds).

I second Bangkok Garden on Cordell. It's good.

Agree that Tara Thai is horrible!

My favorite in Arlington is Sawadtee (not sure if I spelled that right). I haven't tried Bangkok 54 - where is it in Arlington? I'll have to give it a try.

I love Thai food but I hate the "my Thai food is more authentic than yours" type of poster. Who, if she really knew her stuff, would know that Bangkok 54 is way inferior to its neighbor Thai Square (unless of course you count the decor).

Well, I hate you too. Thai Square has been going gently downhill the past couple of years. Here's the link to Bangkok 54...

See you at the next Thai new year's celebration at the temple. I'll be sure to throw a bucket of water on you.

Nava Thai in Wheaton is fantastic.
