Arlington Boys to ENCL?

So with the exception of a handful of ex DA clubs it looks like ECNL is now top dog until MLS does something. Arlington moving to ECNL is a big.

MLS soccer could go under if they do not play. Even if they do play but have no fans in the stands it’s a major financial hit. I am worried about their commitment to this new league in they hit hard times.

Just do not expect the MLS to subsidize their youth league, which simply means that the cost for the players will go significantly up.
Bethesda has already informed the parents that with the demise of the DA, costs will increase whatever they end up doing (MLS or ECNL). I would expect the same for Arlington.

Why would boys get and not the girls? That’s a pretty big slap in the face!!

OP here, my son plays at Arlington DA and someone caught wind of it yesterday and texted me.

Regardless, Houston Dynamo and Dallas FC goes ECNL too. Maybe ECNL will be the premiere league moving forward. Can/should MLS really try to compete against it? Problem has always been too many "top" tier leagues.

That's now 15 teams in the MidAtlantic region, not to mention two teams in Maryland playing in the Northeast Region.

You could easily form an 8-team league of VA and MD playing home and away each season and have plenty of games...

So let's see if I have this straight. There are five Northern Virginia clubs now in ECNL boys. Most of these used to be in the CCL until they could not compete anymore or decided they wanted to switch to playing other teams further away in the ECNL. Here's what happened over time:

1. BRYC decided to leave all leagues at younger ages for some time, including CCL and was playing in NCSL, where it's teams were not performing well. Older teams are in ECNL.

2. McLean was in CCL, and left at younger ages. Boys teams were not competitive in CCL and ended up playing in NCSL. Older teams are in ECNL.

3. Loudoun entered boys ECNL after being in DA. They've been in CCL. Not sure if they will remain in CCL.

4. VDA youth teams are in NCSL and VPL. older teams were in DA. They are now in ECNL.

5. Arlington is in CCL and recently older teams were in DA. They are now in ECNL.

A number of area boys teams are ranked comparably or better than these teams u12-15, but outside ECNL, so instead, Arlington, VDA ad Loudoun have decided to play lesser local teams within ECNL and go to NC for games. Forgive the cynicism but what is the point of all this? Perhaps we can be a little skeptical about the league hopping these clubs (and other clubs are doing)?

All that said, best of luck.

We are Arlington DA parents and not excited about this. We'll find out more details on our conference call, but we may stick it out for the next "year" (i.e. who knows what will happen this Fall) and sort it out the season after when things are a bit clearer.

Not impressed by level of ECNL competition nor the travel, but suspect they didn't have many options.

Hang in there. I think it was a difficult decision for them. A DA-caliber son will have plenty of really good options when things resume, and I suspect a lot of other top clubs in the area who will compete elsewhere would be thrilled to have him.
