And what vegetarian recipes/items do you use it for? Thanks!! |
Penzeys. |
Any middle eastern grocery store will sell it. And there are plenty of those in the DMV area. |
Penzey’s, Yekta, MOM’s, also should be available in Whole Foods.
I sprinkle it over freshly baked pita or over labneh with olive oil. |
Yekta and Zam Zam in Rockville. |
Every Giant, Harris Teeter and Wegmans have it. It's a very common spice now. It may be on the shelves below the ones in alphabetical order. |
There’s also this local company with great zaatar as well as olive oil and other spices. Available online and they’re usually at Great Falls farmer’s market every week , maybe others?

You can find a zataar spice blend in any grocery store, it's not exactly exotic here. Uses are endless...roasted potatoes, hummus, popcorn.... |
I've found it at H Mart in Falls Church |
I bought a big bag at olive nation online. We throw it in roasted veggies or use it for stir fry with olive oil. |
I got it in Wholefoods, and also Giant in the past. |
I bought mine at Whole Foods. |
MOM's, Whole Foods, but Mediterranean Market in Alexandria is my favorite place to get it.
Mix it with olive oil, dip bread in it and eat. Put on pizza, popcorn, roasted vegetables. |
Amazon carries everything you could ever want. Everything. |
To answer your recipe question: I like to toast a pita with olive oil and goat cheese and sprinkle za’atar on top. Also, add it to salad dressing of olive oil, lemon, and salt. I also like to pour liberally on a fried egg as I’m frying it. |
