What's the difference between regular balsamic vinegar and balsamic vinegar dressing for salads? Can you use balsamic vinegar dressing as a substitute for a recipe that calls for balsamic vinegar?
Dressings usually combine the vinegar with oil and seasoning. Depends on the recipe, but if it were for something that is cooked (like meat), its probably fine. But it would add quite a bit of oil, so you would want to take that into consideration.
Balsamic vinegar is just the pure vinegar, balsamic vinegar dressing will likely be a combination of the vinegar with some oil and other flavorings added (check the label for exactly what). No, you can't substitute.
I would say whether or not you can substitute it depends on the recipe, and you probably would be fine. If you are making a Tuesday night chicken casserole and the recipe calls for 1 or 2 tablespoons, sure go ahead and substitute it. But if you are making a fancier dish where there is an emphasis on the quality of the ingredients, then you would notice it if you substituted.
