For those of you that don't really care about ex-DA or ECNL

Anonymous
We are looking at moving to a new soccer club in the N. Virginia area due to some issues that don't have anything to do with ex-DA/ECNL/GAL whatsoever. DD is a high school girl who wants to play soccer for her HS team. Please give me the pros and cons of your club. This is NOT intended to bash other soccer clubs, just an opportunity to hear from people who are from the actual club. Playing in college is not a factor. She's a defensive midfielder and starter. She was on the A team at her old club, for whatever that's worth these days. And please don't tell me to "call the club" since naturally theirs will always be the best around. Looking for honesty since no club is perfect!

Start with the clubs close to where you live. And yes, even the ECNL clubs have B teams.

OP here, the closest club is the one we are leaving...too big, not enough technical development, difference of opinion with coach (who we found out is going to be back next season).

SYA maybe? They have some solid teams and many of their coaches also coach HS teams.

I have a teen son playing at SYC in Springfield. They are not part of the DA or ECNL madness and have very good competitive soccer and technical development, for both girls and boys. Coaches are great and well liked. A lot of the girls play in their HS teams as well.

The good stuff about SYC aside, ONLY ECNL and DA players are affected by the “madness”.

This was a stupid thread title to begin with. If you are not interested in playing ECNL or GAL or whatever EVERY CLUB has such an option. What ECNL does or doesn’t do does not impact 95% of youth soccer.

Pick the best coach and club closest to home and relax.

Daughter moved to Alexandria a few years ago. The club has very nice facilities, plays CCL and unlike her prior club Alexandria is responsive. I say that because our prior experience is the girls team didnt matter and the leadership at the prior club barely took the time to acknowledge a call, email or inquiry. I have found the exact opposite at this club. Furthermore, the club is heavy into futsal which she loves to play. That is an added benefit.

How can kids get in SYC or Alexandria team with no tryouts?

Everyone is in the same boat.

Just reach out to the club TD and go from there.

email the coach
let them know you have an interest in your kid playing for the age group he/she coaches
done
now the coach knows and will have you there when things get going

its really not that hard to consider

I think both Clubs have solid A teams already, so they're probably not looking to add many players to their rosters. But since she's in HS, I would send the TD an email with her soccer CV attached. I would add a couple of videos as well, that's what SYC says to do for college recruit but I think it would work for HS level at the club as well!

I hate to say you are wrong but my kid plays for one of those two teams and slots for a quality starter are definitely available. The team is a good quality squad but always can use a strong player and I am talking as a starter not as a bench add on.
