Schedule and/or resources to help me keep my 5th grader learning

Anonymous
I have a 5th grader who is basically running feral, spending all of his time on Xbox. Both parents work FT and we've managed to organize things for our older child who has AP tests to study for, SAT prep, and an established roster of tutors. Older kid won't be graded, but at least he's learning something.

OTOH, our 11yo 5th grader is doing very little - he has a daily Zoom call with his teachers and a few assignments but all of that takes maybe 1-1.5 hrs/day. 11yo is a smart kid, not an eager reader but a surprisingly good writer (compared to older kid) and in compacted math. I need a schedule and some non-MCPS resources that will keep his brain occupied. If you have your similar-aged child on a schedule, or if you've found some good home schooling resources, could you please share any suggestions here? I've tried some Khan Academy but we really need more ideas. Thanks for any suggestions!

You can order grade level textbooks and workbooks for the main subjects, as well as books in history/world geography. What about learning a language using duolingo? It’s fun, easy and free. He can also learn a bit about classical music history/ famous composer/masterpieces by going through the different eras.

My fourth grader, who sounds similar to your kid, is really enjoying the month long trial of Beast Academy online, which is a math curriculum for strong math students.

I mentioned this site earlier today on the general education forum. It has exactly this sort of advice: https://schoolclosures.org/

Maybe some outschool.com classes if you have enough Wi-Fi left and don’t mind paying? Coding (still screen but much more engaging of the mind), some science area of interest, a writing seminar? With a class, maybe more likely to keep at it, versus just finding something on Internet. Maybe some regular workbooks with assignments? Some assigned documentaries or quality movies to watch each day? Zoom call with friends? More chores. Make dinner.
