I need motivation to keep dieting

Maybe we can all help each other. I have a good 10 lbs to lose, have lost 7 in the last month. I will be SOOOOO much happier if I can take off this weight and fit into all my clothes again. I am way past "post-partum"so that is not an excuse. Like many of us, now that I am tracking calories, it becomes evident how many calories I was eating, and why I was overweight.

But now I feel stuck. I haven't lost anything in a week, and feel like I can never eat. I am exercising at the gym 5 times per week. I am sticking to 1400 calories which is what I am supposed to eat to lose 2 lbs per week. How will I EVER get the rest of this weight off.
I feel really committed to this, but am just getting so discouraged!

Thanks for listening.

1400 calories a day is not very much, imho. I can understand why you are getting discouraged. Perhaps you might want to go to a calorie level where you lose only a 1/2 lb a week - it still adds up, may take more time, but you won't get nearly as discouraged, and you can afford to "treat" yourself calorie-wise every so often to keep yourself from being discouraged and going on a binge. I feel for you - I am doing the same thing (not same calorie level), and it can be tough - but I am amazed at what my calorie intake used to be. I also feel much better than I used to feel. Keep at it, and keep those clothes handy that you want to fit in - they are great motivators!

Maybe you need to shake up your gym routine a bit? Whenever I add "sprints", or high intensity intervals, I can shed pounds quickly. I go all out for 1 minute, recover for 2, and repeat for a total of 20 minutes. Then I go all out for 30 seconds, recover for 1 minute, and repeat for another 20 minutes, for a total cardio workout of 40 minutes.

I can't stop eating chocolate this evening! I just completely blew my 'low carb' week! I also have about 10 lbs to go, but it might as be 100...

Just stick with it. Don't reduce your calories anymore or you might kill your metabolism. Since you don't have that much to lose, the rest of the weight will come off very slowly. But it will come off.

I don't have any advice but am right there with you. I can't lose unless I stick to 1200-1400 calories a day. It doesn't matter how much I exercise. And of course that number is extremely difficult to stick to - most of the time I can make it through 90% of the day eating no more than I planned, and then blow 600 calories after dinner because I'm still hungry and feel so deprived, so end up much higher than I wanted and not losing. I am too scared of the post-dinner binge to try eating more throughout the day. I am also depressed about this extra weight: I knew it would be hard to lose the baby weight, but didn't know it would be this hard.

this might sound strange- but try to do your routine at the gym in reverse order. your body can get used to the routine you do and become stagnant... you are so close. hang in there... also, try to change the days you work out- any little change will help you.

I totally agree with this. Sameness begets sameness. If you "shock" your body, you will see change.

After many cycles of lose 20 to 30 pound on weight watchers, gain 30 to 40 pounds, return to weight watchers, I'm at it again. This time I'm very consciously assessing every meal for how I will eat when the weight is off. Like, I will be able to have the same salad, plus eat the roll. Not, I'll go back to the gooey cheese laden grilled sandwich plus french fries. If you live like a person who weighs your goal weight, eventually you will get there. Once you arrive, the long term journey begins. .. . Good luck!!!

I wish I could stick to Kate Moss' mantra - 'nothing tastes as good as skinny feels'.

Ugh...10 pounds to go here as well, 6 months postpartum, but I don't think I'll ever make it. Even pre-preg, if I gained weight it was in my tummy, so I just feel like I'll always have a pooch from here on. With loose shirts, I look fine, and I'm not overweight. But, I miss using half my wardrobe, and I feel like bathing suit season is coming up.
