I know this is all speculation, but I keep stressing about it and I'm curious what people think. Will summer camps run at all this summer? Water parks? Splash pads? Has anything already closed? If things are open will you send your children? What do you think summer will be like this year? |
No one knows. I suspect things will loosen up to a degree. Places are going to try to make some version of outdoor camps work because no one will stay locked down forever. |
I’m hoping even if camps aren’t open it will loosen up enough that kids can roam the hood together. |
It will. |
The fact that this overblown hysteria is destroying society is becoming increasingly clear. Things will normalize. |
My predictions are summer camps yes, if there are more parents back at work. This will be mostly day camps, but some won’t open at all. Sleep away camps are iffy and may not open if they think parents won’t be comfortable with them.
Our pool management company said they were moving forward with plans to open their pools this summer, but that was last month so who knows where things stand now. I think the splash pad and water parks (and parks in general) run by the county (I’m in Fairfax) will try to open if the shelter in place order is lifted after June 10th, but may have a lot more restrictions or closures for cleaning. Better question is will people actually do anything this summer. Most people seem psychologically damaged at this point and don’t even want to leave their houses until there’s a vaccine. |
I disagree, even my most vigilant friends are dying to get out and have begun texting things like, “would playing with just one friend be so bad?”, “how much longer, two weeks?” Etc |
I live out in the Exurbs, but our local rec center (Freedom center in Manassas) has cancelled summer camps this year. My kids are older so I'm not affected, but it's a shame for the younger kids and especially for the parents who may have been relying on it for childcare. |
Just shy of 50,000 Americans have died in the past 3.5 weeks. |
My sister has it. Has been running a fever for almost a month. Can barely sit up for more than a few minutes at a time. Overblown hysteria indeed. |
Wow they cancelled early. We received several emails saying they will reevaluate and let us know on April 30. We live in McLean. I had signed up kids for camps around VA. |
As of now, one of DD's camp is hopeful they can hold it (in August). The other has gone to an online model. |
DD’s science day camp was already cancelled.
I think things will loosen up but I doubt “gatherings” like camp will be open. |
No camps. Too easy for a super spreader situation and cross contamination among parts of the community.
I am hoping for pools, though, maybe with limited crowds and hours or closed locker rooms. Chlorine kills the virus and outdoors is safer. I would definitely swim but wouldn’t attend a concert. |
