I have a teacher friend in the bay area who is a great teacher that regularly gets positive feedback from parents because they see such an improvement in their children's performance in school. She is super dedicated to her students and it shows in the students' progress. The school principal has it in for this teacher for unknown reasons. She issued a non re-elect notice to this teacher (who is an experienced teacher with 10+ years experience), and based on union rep advice, the teacher signed the notice effectively submitting notice of resignation. Teacher called it forced resignation so she doesn't put herself in jeopardy of not being eligible to teach elsewhere. Many of her students' parents have sent letters to superintendent of schools in support of this teacher, but nothing has been communicated to teacher suggesting there has been a change in her status at the school.
I am not a teacher, and am so surprised by all the crap teachers have to deal with from administrators. Especially great teachers who are performing exceptionally to educate children. What options are available to this teacher? It seems like the principal has a personal vendetta against this teacher and other teachers who she may perceive as a threat...(?) Who knows, it doesn't matter, but principals shouldn't have this much power to arbitrarily get rid of teachers. Why is it so difficult to get rid of horrible teachers, but it is so easy to get rid of excellent teachers? Why should teachers not have protections available to the rest of us in the work place. I haven't discussed it further with the teacher, but the union seems useless....why can't they protect this teacher's job?!?!
Anyone with experience/knowledge who can share helpful information that can be used to help this teacher keep her job? She has been described as someone who wears her heart on her sleeve, kind person who does too much when it comes to her students. I've been talking to her during this distance learning situation, and I wish my child's daughter put in half this teacher's effort.
