| DS is 6 months and tires me even when I'm just holding him in my lap. He will not stop trying to jump up and down and moving around like a little worm. Is this normal, or does it vary with the temperament of each child? I know it gets worse as they get more mobile, but holy cow he just won't stop! Any suggestions? |
| Yep, my now 8 month old was and is the same way and he is only getting more mobile!! Bottle feeding has become a wrestling match as he insists on trying to sit up, bounce, turn his head, and slide out of my lap onto the floor to stand, which wouldn't be a problem except he can't hold his own bottle! He is my first so I'm not sure if it's temperment, but I look at it as a good thing that he just wants to get up and explore his world, although it can be frustrating too!! Good luck! |
| PP here, I forgot to add that I don't have any brilliant suggestions. Mine is enthralled with our dog, so sometimes I'll try to get the dog to hang out on the floor chewing a bone or something nearby and sometimes he is content to sit and watch her while taking his bottle. |

my son was like that. he has always been mr. physical activity.
I don't have any suggestions, except take advantage of it when you can. Do you have an exersaucer? My son loved that from about 5-10 months. When he was about 1 year he was very mobile but not talking much. I taught him just a few baby signs like "down" "bath" etc. and he picked them up really quickly. He still couldn't really make many words until 21-24 months, though. I think the lack of communication skills, coupled with the desire to move, was what was hardest for both of us. Lastly, when he's a bit older, bring him to the park or playground almost every day. He will probably walk early and then want to push a ball, climb stairs, etc. Also, give him a sippy cup to practice holding, with water. My son learned that quickly. |
| My son was and is the same way. He always has to be moving! He really liked the swing, Jumperoo, and the Johnny-Jump-Up. Also liked being in the stroller so we would go on lots of walks. Basically anything that kept him moving. I took him out a lot. We went to the mall, playdates, movies w/ babies etc. These activities seemed to wear him out so he would take long naps. |

My daughter is like that and I'm surprised that some of you were able to put your babies in the exersaucer or a swing. We'd get 2 minutes max!! She absolutely hates being tied down to anything (we've pretty much retired her stroller) and cannot stop moving. This has been the case since she was 4 months old. Even relatives who have had multiple children tell me that they've never seen anything like it. I'm glad to hear there are others out there.
DS started walking (and dancing) at 10 months and running/walking backwards and going up and down stairs at 12. I think these children will be the same ones that play every sport and thrive in a busy environment when they are older. |
My 9 month old daughter is like the energizer bunny and NEVER slows down!!! Just like her momma! I just let her be as active as she can be. I let her bounce on my bed to her hearts content to get all her energies out! She walks now and is all over the place! I have had to push all my things off my shelves because she will get to them and knock them down. She sleeps well because she's so active. Soon I will have to take her out running with me!!! That ought to slow her down? LOL
