has anyone done ivf abroad?

Yes, and we were successful at 42 with my own eggs. I used Gestar en Guatemala City. The doctors and lab techs are trained in Spain. They have safe, clean, state of the art facilities and wonderful nurses, plus mental health professionals on staff to support families through the process. https://www.facebook.com/GestarGuatemala/

I was overseas. BTW Thailand has great medical care.

How would you get there and back now?

I wish I had, because from what I hear you can save so much money and I think it's pretty easy to find reputable agencies like those PPs have listed above. I didn't even think about it until we were already all tangled up with SGF (I had a good experience there, but it was SO pricy). I did do a non-IVF fertility-related treatment at Genesis Athens and was very satisfied with the care, the doctors, and the clinic.

We are looking at Barbados. We have been working with SGF. Was it hard to transfer medical stuff? How long did you have to stay? How expensive was everything? TIA

We loved Barbados, I'll start off by saying it was the best decision we made. Transferring info was easy, you just email your test results to their office and they will call you to discuss during consultation. I did my baseline ovarian reserve ultrasound at Shady Grove and they sent over the reports to Barbados. I ordered all the meds online and started them here, once we arrived in Barbados the Dr. does the ultrasound to see how you are responding ( I loved this part since it wasn't an ultrasound tech but the actual Dr each time). We stayed there a little over 2 weeks; maybe 16 or 17 days? Total price inclusive of air fare, lodging, meals, meds + procedure (IVF + ICSI) and first year storage fee was around $13-$14K. Once you come back to the states you do your beta testing at Shady Grove and again they fax it to the clinic or you can do it on your own. That's where it ends with SG though, they don't do any dating or confirmation ultrasounds unless you are their patient so I did that at my regular OB. Overall I would do it again at a heartbeat, both times I had to go to SG either Woodbridge or K street locations it was a total madhouse and not at all relaxing. I wrote a really long post about Barbados earlier on this site, it should come up if you search. I definitely think not having to deal with going to work and being in a stress free environment helped a ton, plus all we did there was eat, sight see and go to the beach. You do not go to get monitored daily like they do here so you have a lot of free time which is nice and the staff was very very responsive, more so than CCRM and Shady Grove both of which I dealt with here and I could never get a hold of a nurse when I called. Anna Hosford at the clinic will email you back within an hour most days and they are on top of all your paperwork and helping out with ordering meds and how to administer etc. Good Luck and happy to answer any other questions you have !

I froze my eggs in Poland. Each cycle is USD $2,500 including drugs -all inclusive package. My storage fee is about USD $125/year! The whole trip was less than just the drugs here. I decided to switch after I saw the pharmacy bill for SGF Rx (over 4K for just the drugs.) No regrets!

Went to Prague for one cycle. The experience was ok, only 3 eggs, one embryo and a BFN. Nothing seemed tailored to me and we did 2 cycles at CCRM Nova and got 13 eggs the first cycle and 9 eggs the second. That said, I’m glad we did it. It helped have information for my 2nd and 3rd cycles (without paying tens of thousands of dollars and DH and I LOVE Prague.
