Richmond United Families,
As you are probably aware, rumors have been circulating regarding the demise of the Development Academy. US Soccer’s potential decision was brought to our attention early last week. Since then, we have worked diligently with leaders across the country, representing DA clubs, non-DA clubs and national leagues to establish how we move forward from this decision. We are pleased to announce that we will be joining the Boys ECNL Mid-Atlantic Conference that will include DA clubs VDA, NCFC, NC Fusion, Charlotte Academy, and Charlotte Independence. An official ECNL announcement will be released later this afternoon and we will forward that to you as well. Richmond United will continue to operate as in past seasons and is fully committed to offering the most comprehensive and successful player development environment in our region. We will provide more information in the coming weeks. Thank you for your patience and support, |
| So no Arlington in ECNL for boys or girls it looks like. |
If they are joining the ECNL it will be in the same division as Loudon and McLean, etc.. Looks like they are splitting the former "Mid Atlantic" division into a north and south group or expand the "North East" division. |
| but but but source?!?! lol |
This is the email I got from RU academy director
|
Or Arlington is not joining ECNL. |

Bad DA teams and bad ECNL teams, unite... and travel to SC.
EDP seems the sane option. |
| That escalated quickly |
Yeah, no kidding. |
| Isn’t there going to be a lot of travel in EDP too? How do you know you won’t lose your best players to ECNL? |
Because ECNL is built for rich, white people. The top boys talent in this area is neither of those things. |
Bethesda's EDP's furthest game was Philly, which looks like a short hop compared to some of the ECNL travel (which is likely by plane). |
Perfectly said, as father of rich white kid. ECNL is where you go when you finally realize your son may not be tough enough or talented enough to play DCU or Bethesda, but is wealthy enough to make a Jetset team. Of course, when that day comes my kid will find something else to do. Maybe rich but not stupid and completely indifferent to the status. Fly for math and science competitions, sure, but for soccer, come on. |
| Is VDA going to be able to keep kids by joining Boys ECNL? Aren't players from outside that local area going to leave for something else, anything else? |
