The new Atlantic cover story on anxiety is great imo though will I am sure annoy some on here as it's critiquing our way of life and all ![]() https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2020/05/childhood-in-an-anxious-age/609079/ Anyway, I was amused to see that it quotes a DCUM thread by its title -- “Super Fudge book outs Santa as fake.” I thought that sounded familiar so I looked and here it is: https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/769978.page Here's the part of the piece where it comes up:

Does this mean we’re cool now? |
No, it means the Atlantic is circling the drain of writing. |
Er, in this tableau, is the drain DCUM? Have a little pride, lady! |

It means Kate Julian hangs out on DCUM. Hi Kate! |
Or the author of the article is a poster on here. |
Funny thanks for telling me. |
I feel so seen! I wonder how she feels about Executives! And what’s tacky! And siblings at birthday parties! |
No pride. I know I’m circling the drain with y’all. |
Oh we have better examples of cloistering and hovering and protecting. Wait until they write about all the parents doing their kid's distance learning work and attendance checks... |
Apparently. God, googled her and she’s a “senior editor.” The Atlantic started in 1857 and featured writers such as Ralph Waldo Emerson, Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr., Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Harriet Beecher Stowe. My but how the mighty have fallen. |
I haven't read the article, but it sounds like she has a fair point. Some posters here really are certifiable - it's got to be some sort of delusion disorder for people to think that someone that age still believes that Santa is real. |
Agreed. And that thread was a perfect example of the collective nuttiness that exists here. |
She’s not wrong, but she totally outed herself and we all know the first rule of DCUM is to never admit you know it exists. |
