My daughter did not go to either middle school, but she is now at Minnie Howard (the 9th grade center) and most of her classmates graduated from GW and Hammond. While she is one of the top students at Minnie Howard, there are many excellent students who came from either GW or Hammond. Some of these students took geometry as 8th graders, and are now taking an algebra II/trig class in 9th grade. Therefore, the ACPS middle schools allow students to get on a very accelerated track for math. On the other hand, she is in a 3rd year French class as a 9th grader, and there are no 9th grade students who graduated from GW or Hammond in her class. They are all taking French II, so there does not appear to be much opportunity for language acceleration (at least French) in the ACPS middle schools. Overall, however, the student bodies from both GW and Hammond are incredibly diverse. There are VERY smart students at each school.
