Instacart--how can I change the tip after the order has been placed but before the shopper starts?

Anonymous
I placed an Instacart order the other day and chose a tip based on the total amount. Over the next few days I continued to add to the list. Now my total is much more and I want to increase the tip accordingly. I can't find how to do that in the app or on a desktop. I can edit the items in my list, but not the tip. I wanted the shopper to see the increased tip amount before shopping, not the original tip amount. I don't want them thinking I plan to tip low for the size of the order. Have you been able to change this? If so, how?

I was able to adjust the tip after my order was delivered.

Many people are changing the tip to 0, after luring the shoppers with attractive tips. I hope InstaCart changes that and prevents people from changing their tip amount from high to low.

I can’t figure how to do that either. However, you can add a note, and when that happens to me (usually, as the day before the order my husband always thinks of a dozen more things), I just add a note to the order indicating I’ll change the tip after it is delivered.

What if the service was bad. I had a delivery where they broke a bunch of stuff

Then you should have to call and explain the situation. I think there should be a maximum of 2 times per year that you should be allowed to do this.

My husband had his hours cut so he's doing Instacart right now and he's had a few people pull the tip at the last minute. Yesterday he picked up a huge order that had a $100 tip on it and we were both sure that they would change it after delivery. Not only did they not change it but they were so grateful when he unloaded that he got teary telling me about it. It was a good reminder that people can be really kind.

Reversing on hourly workers who now know where you live, what you drive, and possibly the layout of your house doesn't seem wise. idk the vetting of instacart, but I'm guessing pretty lax. even uber has lunatic criminals driving cars, can only imagine the average instacart gig worker.

I placed a large order but only got a fraction of it. The tip was calculated based on the original large order, so the shopper got a 35% tip, which I hadn't planned on paying.

Plus, communication was nonexistent from the shopper. They put a bunch of stuff in the cart, then, for some reason, took half of it out before it was delivered. I didn't have to pay for the stuff they took out, but I still paid the delivery fee (which is a percentage of the large order) and the tip (also a percentage of the large order)

I am not happy with Instacart. I wanted to leave a generous cash tip, but in the end, the shopper still got generous tip based on the paltry supply of groceries actually delivered to me.
