Capital Kids Day Care in Falls Church

Feedback about this facility would be appreciated. I called to inquire about their waiting list, couldn't get much information. They are the only day care center I've spoken with so far that require you to call ahead and let them know when you plan on touring the facility?

Stay away! Went to visit and also talked to current parents. Go to the Virginia inspections page (don't have URL handy) and you will see that this place doesn't care about the rules. Many, many violations. Had friends who worked in building and everyone there avoided the place like the plague. Hate to scare you but that is what I heard.

I am shocked, we visited the Capital Kids in DC and loved it. Out of all the daycares we toured we thought this one seemed to be the best. It is/was our first choice for our daughter to start at this summer. We have been hopeing to get in. Now I don't know what to think. Can current DC Capital Kids parents please reply wioth their experiences? Thanks.

In DC we do not have access to this level of reporting on daycare infractions.

I did not like the flashcards, homework, and very high student/teacher ratios (within DC regs, just high), also they have movie day where kids in each class watch a couple hours of movies once a week!

There are VERY few slots for babies in DC, so if this is your only choice, it is about as good as any of the others - but is your child is over 2 and can get into a preschool elsewhere - I take any other option but this one

This is the 8:52 poster from this morning. My daughter will be two when we hope to start day care. It is impossible to get into these places and we have been on numerous waiting list for over a year and a half. I am really surprised that Capital Kids is that bad. Is that movie thing for real? My daughter has never even seen a full half hour episode of TV. Are the posters that gave the negetive reviews current parents? The only negetive thing mu husband and I made fun us was that the teacher giving us a tour kept on repeating that "they have a lot of parties" (for holidays I assumed).

They have a lot of birthday parties as well as holiday parties - I think that is what she means.

I was a parent and pulled my 2 y/o child out when we got a slot at an accredited preschool and it has been a totally different (and better experience). Though I do say that I know families still at CK's that love it, and find it is a fitting environment to their child. I was getting a lot of feedback that my child did not participate in circle time (calling out flash cards- letters, shapes, and numbers), and did not do the work sheets. I did not like that my child had homework before age 2.

I did not like the movie time part (as parents brought in the movies and some were not of the quality that I should have shown my child - very commercial). Nor did I like that the person watching my child at the end of the day was not the one that was there all day, and I did not get good feedback from the teacher on how the day went...

Your call - depends on your child, and your family priorities. It was more academic then I liked.

PP - Do you mind letting me know which accredited preschool you are happy with? Is it in the same area as Capital Kids as we live near there.
Anonymous
I'm not the pp but I researched alot of places near there. For three year olds try Cedar Lane Montessori. I really liked this place:

http://www.stjosephspreschool.com/ and they take 2s.

not the pp - but School for Friends is near there, as is french maternal, Washington Montessori, as well as Georgetown Montessori... depends on where you are but there is also Little Folks, St Johns, and even St Albans

It is very useful information-thanks. Does anyone have recommendations for a day care in Falls Church, Merrifield or Dunn Lorring area that takes babies?
