Long distance relationship -- communication frequency

Anonymous
DH and I have been together for 5 years. We agreed to a plan where for up to 3 years, we will have a LDR for career reasons. Long story short, he's in a subspecialty and lost his job. After a year of searching locally, he now has a great opportunity 4 hours away. I don't want to leave my current job for now. No children now.

For those who have successfully managed a LDR, I'd really appreciate your advice on how often to talk by phone/video. What worked for you? We'll be in the same time zone and our schedules generally mesh (it's not like one of us does nights and the other, days).

I did 9 months LD once. Relationship survived very well (although ended a few years later for unrelated reasons). Others I’m sure will disagree, but I am an introvert and hate the phone so while we talked most days, we didn’t talk every day. So it never felt like a chore. We probably talked six days a week.

Thanks for your experience. OP here. DH is an introvert and I think he could go days without talking (which isn't great for me).

Did you schedule the calls typically?
