Seneca Academy has gone out of business and will be closing its school.

My kid went here for elementary school and we loved it so much. I am so sad to hear it has gone out of business. It couldn't withstand the pressures of this pandemic on recruiting and fund raising. I suppose it will be one of several very small schools to do so.

Where did you hear that? Weren't people still paying tuition?

The board sent out a letter. Regular staff will work the rest of the year at reduced salaries. Assistant teachers have been laid off.

The website doesn't have any indication of this.

Yes. A group of parents is trying to brainstorm and fundraise, but I have no idea the likelihood of success. We have a spot there for next year and I need to figure out what to do.
Such a shame.

Sorry? Emails were sent to current families. They will close at the end of the year.

how would they be in such a position after being closed for 3 weeks? weren't they still collecting tuition?

i have to imagine they were having problems long before this, then.

can anyone shed light on what their financial situation was prior to the pandemic?
Anonymous
they had been operating at a loss for at least 5 years. look at their 990s.

this had little to do with the pandemic. sadly, this was a long time coming.

What is the best way to search for the 990s of different schools? Thanks!

Would be helpful if one of the current parents would share the letter...

They were probably having a lot of issues before and using this as an excuse. It makes no sense.

Why if your kid isn't going there it makes no difference to you.

Keep in mind the religious schools don't file 990s.
