Infertility Support and Discussion

I have been using Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor for awhile now (prior and during TTC) and never had any problems until recently. With the last two cycles I never got a Peak reading. I got multiple days of High and then went back to Low. I also chart and my temp changed and had cervical fluid - so I think I must have ovulated? It is so frustrating since I missed two potential IUIs.
Anyone have this problem? I always POAS in the morning per the instructions for CEFM. But maybe I should wait until mid-morning as other OPKs recommend? I think for this cycle will go with other ovulation tests. But I will be so disappointed if same thing happens this time - maybe I will need to just get IUI based on temp change/cervical fluid - but that seems a little scary since not as definitive (well until the temp changes which is then too late). |
I have not had this particular problem, but will tell you that you only want to use first morning urine (FMU) with the CEFM. CEFM tests LH and a form of estrogen and not just LH alone as OPKs do. The test needs FMU to be accurate. I would try other ovulation kits and see if you get better results.
I've had that problem. In fact, all three times I conceived, I never got a peak! So much for that monitor. I find temps much more accurate.
You can also ask your clinic to monitor you for an LH surge with bloodwork. SG did that when I needed to detect a surge for an IVF cycle and I hadn't gotten one using an OPK by day 14. I finally got the surge around day 18...
That's interesting OP. I have been using CEFM. Last month, I got one "elevated" reading and the next day had an ovulation reading. This month, I'm at day 18 and still at the low reading. I read yesterday somewhere on the 'net that they only have 73% accuracy. The weird thing is, in getting PG with DC #1, it was totally accurate and on target.
I've been using the CBEFM for 14 cycles. Starting at #9 it stopped giving peak readings. I think I've gotten one peak reading since then, but other OPKS and my fertility doc have confirmed that I am indeed ovulating. I've also heard a number of my friends say the same thing. If you continue with the monitor, use another method in addition.
I have used CBEFM in the past without any problems, but this month I decided to try using it in the afternoon. I didn't drink anything else after my morning coffee, so that I wouldn't dilute the sample, but still... I'm on my sixth day of "highs". No "peak", and I am on day 16. (I usually O on Day 11 or 12.) I am not charting temps, so I have no idea where I'm at. I assume that I have already ovulated... Guess that afternoon doesn't work so well with CBEFM.
I'm the 12:39 poster... wondering... did you buy your monitor new? I got mine used 4 years ago. Wondering if age could have something to do with it? |
This is OP - thanks everyone! This was really helpful to hear other experiences and advice. I think there was a part of me that was worried I wasn't ovulating but sounds like I need to be more proactive to determine my surge and not waste another cycle. (Or at least confirm if ovulating or not through doctor!)
I'm the 12:41 poster -- I did buy mine brand-spanking new. Everyone I have spoken with that has used this thing has bought it new and experienced the same issues. This cycle I stopped using it and will reset it for use next cycle (unless we move on to medicated fertility treatments).
