They're going to stop paying our daycare teachers...

Well, they decided to stop paying them in 2 weeks. We've been paying for daycare (even though it's closed) for nearly a month because we wanted them to keep paying the teachers.

This is really making me kind of sick. We can't support all of them on our own and rounding up support to donate money directly to teachers isn't going as well as I'd hoped.

What would you do? Just donate to them what you can? Is it insulting to give someone a handout like that?

Agencies are backed up right now but claims will be processed. Why would you think someone wouldn’t get their unemployment?

They can get unemployment.

As long as the daycare workers have been legally paid they have paid into the unemployment fund. They will get unemployment.

Yes they will get their checks. They already stopped paying at our center and refuse to take our money and funnel it to staff. (Any donations will be given to the over arching non profit but not necessarily used on staff.)

If you have someone’s Venmo info you can always just send them money, but I would worry about the appearance of favoritism. And insulting them. I chose to just donate to Manna and SOME, since those orgs must be overworked.

It sucks and makes me glad my kid is headed to K.

My nephew has gotten his first unemployment check in the $300 range but no sign yet of the extra money that was promised with the stimulus bill, it may be coming later.

Well it’s not like state unemployment agencies were staffed up to handle this volume. People are going to have to be patient.

It’s been weeks and people have not gotten checks. You’re naive to think they will come within a month of application. Better for the daycare to pay the teachers.

I just got the email from DD’s center. I feel awful. I would rather keep paying tuition, I want them to be taken care of. We’ll get significantly reduced tuition, but this feels awful.
