Infertility Support and Discussion
| I get so impatient during the two week wait. What's the earliest DPO you've gotten a positive on a pregnancy test? It's fine if it's not until 11 days or so. I need to wait a few more days and I need motivation to make me wait. (Also, envisioning myself peeing on a $5 bill.) |
Earliest I ever got a + was at 8 DPO with a first response (NOT the digital kind). But that pregnancy ended in m/c, and my next (current) pregnancy I got a - at 8 dpo. Thought I was out, but clearly not With all 3 pregnancies, I've gotten strong + at 12 dpo (with afternoon pee), just haven't ever tested on 9, 10 or 11 after getting a - earlier.
Of course - I also know folks who never get a + before 13 dpo, so it's really individual. And as you say - expensive! Although I've heard decent things about the dollar store and internet cheapies, so if you can handle seeing BFN and just feel the need to pee on something, you could go that route. |

I'd wait until 16 days after ovulation or 1 day after expected period at the very least. This is a really personal, individual issue. For me, I would not cope very well with an early positive HPT (D9,10,11 etc) that was followed by a period in 2-3 days. If I have that type of chemical pregnancy, in my case ignorance is bliss. There are valid arguments either way. Other women would take a totally different approach (which I 100% support and respect) for a huge variety of individual reasons and personality types.
Either way, you're the only one who knows what's best for you. Best of luck! |
| I tested negative up to the day of my expected period, then got a positive test that afternoon. I would hold off on testing if you can, because it is EXTREMELY disappointing to see those negatives over and over. Better just to wait it out and be pleasantly surprised, if you can take it. |
| I got the faintest of lines at day 7...though maybe it was an evap line.....it didn't appear until 5 minutes....got a hint of color at day 8........after 3 minutes ....day 10 the result appeared after 1 minute.....and on day 12 it showed up immediately. As you can see I have a POAS addiction. |
| how come people don't use the digital tests? less of a guessing game, i'm thinking. |
Digital tests reportedly require higher level of hcg to show a positive result. Certain nondigital tests will give results earlier. |

OP here. Your responses helped me go another day, thanks!! I'm going to wait until 11 DPO. I won't be devastated if it didn't take this month, but peeing on things now will just be silly.
And as a PP said, the non-digital tests are more sensitive. (I've had two kids and both times I used a regular test before my period was due and confirmed with a digital once AF was late.) |

OP here with an update. I broke down at 9 DPO and peed on a digital (all I had in the house) -- negative. But at 11 DPO, the 2nd digital test was positive!!
So for all you fellow compulsive pee-ers, hold off as long as you can before you start peeing on things! |

Here is a little trick. If you have left over OPK sticks trying peeing on that stick -- way cheaper and you know you have them lying around so you don't have to run out and spend 15 bucks on the HPT.
If the OPK is positive (i.e. the second line is darker than the test line, you are probably pregnant -- I think OPKs are actually more sensitive than HPT). If it is positive you have an excuse to spend money on the HPT -- not the digital ones, those are not sensitive enough. If the OPK is negative, wait a few more days before peeing on anything. I found out about both my pregnancies this way. Both on about 10 dpo -- I was also having symptoms in both cases (both IUIs). |
