Anyone have an electric bike that would care to weigh in?

Anonymous
I rode one in the UK and absolutely loved it. I have some health issues that preclude me from using my regular bike these days, but I know I would get a lot of use out of this. Don't intend to use it as a commuter, just for daily rides. I'm 5'4 and want the throttle, not just pedal assist. Any recs?

THey are prohibited on many bike trails -if that is where you planned to ride.

Which is absolutely ridiculous.

I would simply ignore that law.

Peter Sagan likes these bikes.

PP is right. During the TdF, in an ad, an old woman beats Peter Sagan using an electric bike. Beats. Peter. Sagan! You have to buy one—you’ll love it!

Check out the ad: Peter is hot! (Even if he loses the race.)

He is hot. Was he cuter when his hair was longer?

I’ve had one for years and love it! Use it to commute to work, get groceries, run errands and for general recreation. It’s the best purchase I’ve ever made. OP - definitely get one with a throttle as well as the pedal assist. It’s really useful for getting going from a dead stop. especially if you’re going up an incline or are near cars or are carrying a load. Once I’m pedaling I don’t use the throttle unless I need an extra boost to get up a really steep hill. You can set the amount of power you get from the pedal assist. I don’t set it at the highest so I generally go just slightly faster than I would on a regular bike on flat roads. So those bikers in spandex and road bikes pass me all the time. I could go faster sure but that’s really not the reason I use an ebike.

Nice, thanks! Can you recommend a particular brand/model?

These are SWEET!

Some people might look at these and say “uh, that’s a motorcycle”.

Uh, what do you call something with two wheels and a motor of some kind?

Hint - you don’t call it a “bicycle”.

Hi - I’m the PP (not the person who recommended a motorcycle - wth?) I think that Faraday, Blix and Pedego all make pretty attractive ebikes that look more like normal bikes (some ebikes can be really odd looking). Hybrid Pedals in Arlington has a good selection and they’re really knowledgeable. Much better than the ebike shop up around Tenleytown.

Ebike’s look like something Woody Allen would ride, but I’d totally get an emotorcycle!

So glad I cam across this thread! I'm looking to get more into biking and ebikes always sounded cool. I test rode a Pedego today and it was fun. I'm going to look up these other ones now.

Anyone have a Radpower Bike? They are half the price of the Pedego, but there's no showroom here.

I got a RadRunner bike a couple months ago and have put 150 miles or so miles on it. I LOVE it. It's cheap ($1100 now - less than when I bought it), but accessories add to the cost. I put fenders and the passenger package so my spouse can ride along with me. Works great for getting basically anywhere you want to go around town. It is technically a bike, but with the throttle you can use it as a scooter. It's my 2nd electric bike - I had a cheapo Sondors electric a couple years ago but really didn't like how it rigid it was. I wouldn't say the RadRunner is super comfortable, with the fat tires it's able to absorb some shock. If I were buying again, I'd probably get the RadRunner plus which has suspension and all the extras I bought separately.
