What does this term mean as it relates to middle aged women (not as it relates to people who actually are wearing helmets)?
Yes, I'm not quite sure what this is, either. I need to see a link with a photo!
like a hair hat?
We always used it to describe overly-stiffened middle-aged lady politician hair.

The women are actually older - more like 60's and 70's. Think Nancy Reagan, Pamela Harimon, Katharine Graham. Very stiff and bouffant-y. No movement whatsoever.
Way too many salons in DC that do that style. The helmet head is being replaced by the blond bob. |
I'm the one who asked the question. I saw the term on a list of things that make you look older and wanted to make sure I didn't have one. I don't wear hair spray or any kind of stiffening agent in my hair, but my hair is sort of flat to my head (but naturally curly and cut with many lengths - hard to describe). Just wanted to make sure I wasn't a helmet head. Maybe there is a more general question here - what kinds of hair cut make you look older? My hair dresser, of course, claims my hair cut makes me look much younger!!
Anything that pulls your face down visually and styles that can be assigned to a decade. As well, haircolor. Unbelievable how many women are still doing the ash blonde look.
what it means is hair that doesnt move or swing so please dont apply too much hairspray they used to call me that at work because i overdid the hairspray its scary it means hair that is not touchable!!
Aha. My husband calls this kind of 'do "crispy" hair.
