Took a job in Gaithersburg. We're moving from Cupertino CA and looking to buy SFH. We have 2 kids in elementary school so desired neighborhood will be safe, good public school, diverse, suburban(close to urban center) and not more than 30min commute. My spouse works from home. We're thinking not more than $750k. We've read good things about Kentlands, North Potomac and Rockville. Your recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Consider neighborhoods near Rockville town center. Suburban but nice to be able to walk to metro, movies, restaurants. And you'd have a short reverse commute to Gaithersburg.

For example:

We live in Kentlands and love it. Please consider it! It’s fully walkable and has a really strong community spirit.

Another vote for Rockville around the town square.

Consider Woodley Gardens in Rockville too.

I agree with all the Rockville recommendations. Search 20850. Really great place to live.

Why not Fairfax or Arlington? Commute could be a little long but you will like everything else about the area.

The Rockville Town Square was already failing. It’s going to be a ghost town after the pandemic. Not a fan.

Glen Echo is charming and close to Gaithersburg. Also Frederick.

Oh, I agree with this. RTS itself, as a commercial hub, is not doing well. But even if that fails completely, still a great place to live.

Kentlands around RIO
Or north Potomac
Rockville is hard to get out of

Terrible idea. Nothing there you can not find in MoCo. Commute would be an hour each way and tolls.

OP, don’t put yourself through that torturous commute. Montgomery County is where you want to be if you work in Gaithersburg. You could also consider Urbana, but Rockville and Kentlands will give you a better commute.

Frederick is lovely, but the commute on 270 is not. Stick to Rockville or G'burg.

Whoever suggested Virginia is insane. Honestly I wouldn't even consider Bethesda or Germantown. Commute times are important.

Absolutely no idea why anyone would recommend Fairfax or Arlington.
