RESOLVE Secondary Infertility Support Group Meeting in DC

Anonymous

Those with secondary infertility face unique challenges as they parent their existing children while navigating the process of building their families through infertility diagnosis, treatment, and the consideration of alternate options such as adoption.

No matter where you are in your family-building journey, you will find comfort, support, and knowledge in a RESOLVE peer-led support group.

RESOLVE is proud to offer a group for mothers experiencing secondary infertility, which meets in a private home in NW DC on the third Sunday of every month, from 7:30-9:30 pm. The peer-leader is a mother who has both experience in secondary infertility and training in group therapy and counseling.

Any concerns related to infertility may be discussed with the assurances that all conversations will remain confidential. This monthly group provides a relaxed setting in which to discuss concerns related to all aspects of the infertility and treatment experience. Topics may include current treatment, dealing with friends and family, and stress relief strategies.

Our next meeting is Sunday, Jan 17th. For more information, please contact jessica@dcnemeth.com

Has anyone been to this or know anything about it? I've tried emailing Resolve at least three times about their secondary infertility group, including to the email below, and have never received a reply.

You tried emailing Jessica at jessica@dcnemeth.com? She's the host/moderator. I'm surprised you didn't get a response, she has always responded to me promptly. Yes, I have attended this group and found it very helpful. Try again, it's worth attending.

resolve is basically a dying organization since most people get their support and info online.

Actually, I'd like to respond to the PP. You are making an assumption. I have been involved with RESOLVE in the past. The organization is not dying; attendance in support groups is strong and our conference last year had more than 100 attendees.

This isn't meant to praise Resolve, though. It's just that I want to note to those who regularly contribute to this forum that using the Web for support is great, as long as you keep in mind that the quality of the information you receive is variable. I'm sure you've witnessed this on this forum before. Anonymity can be liberating, but it can also lead to less than well thought out comments because people aren't accountable for what they say.

Face to face support is preferable for many (according to mental health experts), and Resolve's group leaders are provided training in helping to facilitate positive discussions. If you gain from the shared stories you read about online, think about the power of face to face interaction on the topic of infertility. The Web can be a great place; it can also be an isolating place. Different sources of support can be best for different types of personalities. Also, many in Resolve support groups (or support groups run by other organizations) find that their support groups turn into lasting friendships between people who understand their perspective as parents of young children. This may be especially true for adoptive parents.

So, if anyone is interested in this support group, please try to contact the moderator. Best of luck to everyone.

I guess I just didn't appreciate the dissing of Resolve, which is run by a lot of very dedicated women (and men).

I'd like to second the last PP. Our Resolve support group has been extremely helpful -- especially to DH who is not one to post on DCUM or other message boards. We also went to the Resolve conference last year and got a lot of good info.

PP 17:38 I agree with you that the online info can vary and because it's anonymous it can be misleading but I found Resolve's info on adoption to be outdated.

I am the host of the secondary IF group and I wish to apologize to anyone who has tried to contact me and been unsuccessful. I am not sure what might have happened, and we did have several folks contact us successfully, but I do know how frustrating it is to reach out for support and feel frustrated in your search! Our group is ongoing. Please do contact me at any time.
