Does anyone know what exactly went on at "play dates" at various schools? When I asked, only Norwood said that they would do a school readiness test. The rest of the schools were vague. |
Does anyone know what exactly the school readiness test consists of? Actual tasks they child is asked to do?
I'm really curious. |
Of Norwood, my son said they did rhyming words, words starting with various letters, some adding, they may have drawn a house...or I might be confusing that with another school. One of the schools asked him his address. |
I forgot to add that he found these things fun. |
Interesting, thanks. My son is only three, but I was curious!

At the school we applied to, they described activities for the play date that would essentially look at school readiness or at least would identify problem behaviors within the context of that one sample of behavior. For nursery, the children went into the room with the teacher and were first given Play-Doh to play with. They were looking for the ability to engage purposefully with the toy. The children were also free to move around the room and engage with any toys they liked. Here they were looking for purposeful activity as well as attention span, I think. They may have done a story/circle time. Then they did a follow-the-leader movement thing. I imagine they were looking for the ability to follow directions and perhaps for motor development, and they were again looking at attention and purposeful engagement. It was very low key and our child had a blast. |
