Today I pulled my childhood porcelain tea set out of the attic and gave it to my 6 yo. (Side note: the look of total joyful shock on her little face made it SO WORTH having carted that damn set around through twelve moves.)
Anyway -- now I have to figure out how to store it when not in use, since the original box is 35 years old and totally trashed. I would love to get one of those wicker cases with the foam inserts, but a) they come with other tea sets inside, which seems like a waste and b) this set seems like it might be a little larger than those - the teapot in particular looks much bigger. Anybody got any good ideas? It feels so odd to be asking about something so mundane in the midst of everything that's going on... |
I’m glad you find joy in rediscovering and passing on an old keepsake. I think it’s more important to focus on the experience than the item. Pack it up later with some standard china box you can get from Lowe’s or Home Depot, but it’s probably not really necessary to immortalize it in a preservative box. |
Perhaps Michael's or other craft stores have the kind of cute baskets or boxes you'd like, and then they might also have foam or felt you can cut yourself. |
OP here - oh, totally agree, not looking for museum preservation here! ![]() |
Ah, lol, I misunderstood. I thought you wanted to save it for the grandkids. |
I had a little wall shelf for my “treasures” like little porcelain figurines. |
I don't think you should store them -- I think you should leave them out so she can see them. I'd put them on shelves or on top of a piece of furniture where she can see and enjoy them. Or, if it's likely that they would be damaged, store them wherever you store the family china if you have room. I'm guessing a small number of pieces though.
Thank you for asking this question! I think we can all use small doses of joy and frivolity! |
