Post Office during stay-at-home orders

Anonymous
I live in DC and have some business at the post office in the coming days (self-service kiosks, most likely).

The DC stay-at-home order does not apply when accessing "essential government function," but does not list the postal service as an essential government function. However, the US Postal Service web site claims that the postal service is "essential."

Any thoughts on whether it's legal to visit the post office from 4/1 to 4/24?

If they are open, you can go. If there's a long iine or people congregating, drive by and come back later

Thanks.

PO is essential. Expect it to be open.

Post office is essential. It's why you're still getting your mail everyday.

Postal employees delivering mail is essential. Not clear that going to post office is, and waiting in line is obviously not safe. Maybe letter carriers can handle simple transactions?

I drove by the UPS store today and they were open. I assume these days shipping and mail are considered essential.

It’s the only way that we can handle our rent.

No they can’t. Just observe social distancing while waiting in line.
