Need oil change for my car

Anonymous
Ugh I’m due for an oil change this month (March). I totally just realized this because I’ve barely driven my car at all this month. Will the car place still be open? Is it okay to delay an oil change? I am a very type-A person that never misses deadline so the idea of waiting makes me anxious. I was thinking I’d park my car there leave the keys in car unlocked and call and pay and then pick my car up 2 days later And disinfect the inside. What would you all do?

I would just postpone changing the oil until things get better.

Especially if your car is newer...,,
The newer models do not necessarily have to have their oil changed every 3,000 miles.

Mr Tire has some policies in place if you have one nearby. I use them for my oil changes.

What kind of car do you have? How many miles from your last oil change? What kind of oil did they use?

If you’re not driving much don’t worry about it. It’s about miles, not time.

If you are using fill synthetic oil, you can EASILY go 10k between oil changes.

I'm betting you're on the completely unnecessary 3,000 mile oil change schedule.

Relax. It can wait till the world isn't ending.

Call the oil change people. Get an appointment. Ask them how will the interaction go. Will you remain in your car? Will they drive your car? How long will it take etc.

Ask them how you can pay - paypal or online etc, so that you do not have to make payments there.

Wear a homemade mask. Take a can of lysol. Let them change your oil. Spray inside of your car if they made you get out and they sat in it. Sanitize anything that they touched, sanitize your hands.

Drive back home. Change and wash your outdoors clothes and take a shower.

It is an essential service.

Thanks everyone. It’s a 2015 Subaru Forester. I take it in every six months and never get anywhere near 3000 miles in between changes. I have 35,000 miles on it right now. I have no idea what kind of oil they use. I take it to a Japanese auto care store.

You're fine to wait a month or two

You can do 6,000 miles or a year no problem

In VA, anyway, auto maintenance is open under essential services.

If you need to drive do not exceed 20 mph and you should be fine.

I think the 3K versus 6K guidance largely depends on whether you use synthetic oil, but I'm not a mechanic.
