Why is private sector construction still working in DC?

It hard to maintain social distancing on the job site. Other jurisdictions have ordered construction to be paused. Bowser?

DC considers it essential.

Ah, there working on a schedule to finish the job.

The OP wants more people unemployed and more families destitute and dependent on the ruling class for survival. The OP fancies simpler times like 14th century Europe when everyone was impoverished and the Black Death claimed 75 to 200 million lives.

It’s difficult to maintain social distance in construction, with moving supplies, using the same porta-johns, contractors going in and out, etc. Other cities have wisely shut down non-emergency. Why not DC?

Profits is more important than human lives.

Blame Bowser. She cares more about business and tax revenue than people’s lives. Shameful. Silverman would have the city on total lockdown if she were Mayor.

Woulda/shoulda/coulda's aren't helpful in a pandemic such conjecture is entirely futile and could quite possibly further feelings of sadness and/or anger which cause stress and stress weakens the immune system so...
Oh nevermind - hate on my friend, hate on to your hearts content. It's your life.

Today in Maryland I have my neighbor getting a new addition worked on today. About 5 trucks and a dozen or so workman. Not a dust mask in sight.

Money talks.

What a facile and silly thing to say. Ask those workers if they want a job right now. Ask their families. They want the money so they can feed their kids.

Crazy to allow non essential constructiom (eg fancy apt buildings). Let places safely secure sites and then be done.

Existing contracts in place.

Most construction workers are living paycheck to paycheck. I'd rather they have money to feed their families.

Reality check: they cannot access any unemployment benefits or the new 2 weeks of federal emergency wages if they are still working. Ask them if they would rather get paid to stay home safe for a few weeks or if they would like to be trapped in their unsafe job. Ask their families.

Profit is absolutely and completely being prioritized over human lives.

Weird! Our family is under strict quarantine while the unoccupied house next door is under major reconstruction with many, many construction workers! Behind our property is a City Park and for sure on Sunday soccer and other involving more than 10 people were playing.

If we're going to succeed as asked, we need to apply the rules to ALL.
