For a student interested in pursuing a major in industrial engineering and possibly minoring in business — which would you choose?

Michigan by far

Is cost or weather a factor? If not, all 3 schools have great school spirit and big-time sports. Michigan has the highest ranked programs in engineering and business and the study body will be more diverse than either USC or Texas as students come from all over the country and world. Both Austin and Ann Arbor are great towns. LA also great but USC location in worst part of LA. USC has been on the rise but keeps shooting itself in the foot with one scandal after the other. So if cost and weather aren't vital factors, Go Blue!

Texas is so much more diverse than Michigan and it’s not even close:

How certain is your child about the major? At UT, pretty sure you have to apply for a change in MAJOR (not just college) and compete with all other applicants, including transfers.

Kid will probably change his mind on major or will change fields later in life.

And employers don't care where you went to school once you have some experience, so it doesn't matter as much as the nerd crowd would like you to believe.

Those three schools are all on par in terms of reputation. Pick the one with the lifestyle and setting you like best.

I would lock Michigan if kid doesn’t mind the cold.

OP, please clarify: by USC, do you mean the University of South Carolina? if so, that's definitely at the bottom of the list.

Obviously Texas is the best of them all but Michigan should be fine... USC, I'm assuming Southern California... also an excellent choice.

Austin vs LA... that is your real decision.

Cost is not a factor, really. Weather is to an extent, I guess. DC says they don’t mind the cold, but has never actually lived in an environment colder than this area so..,
