We live in Herndon. We’ve done the bike trails and Great Falls, Riverbend.
Any less populated areas you’d recommend? |
|
Great falls Maryland side is now closed.

You can search trails by “solitude” level here https://www.hikingupward.com/maps/full_map.asp
I worry that every trail everywhere is overrun now. |
| there’s a trail that runs from Algonkian park to River Bend. Not well marked or cleared. |
| You could try Claude Moore also. |
| I'm not giving out any of my trails. Too many people on all of them. My secret trails are staying secret. |
| We live by Scott’s run and they just fenced the entrance to the parking lot. |
thats the spirit!

| Well, if people post a lot about a handful of places then they will get overrun. It is safe to be outside; it is not safe if people all start jamming into the same outdoor spots though. |
| We went to several of the Seneca/Poolesville, MD C&O access points (Violet's Lock, Swain's Lock, etc) that are usually empty. Everything was packed!!! |
| Go early-ish in the morning or late afternoon. We’ve had a lot of luck with empty trails at those times. |
Not OP, but are walking paths and parking area still open there? The colonial farm on the property closed permanently, in 2018. |
| Prob not Burke Lake. We didn't go, but drove by - miles of cars parked outside the park. Entry is blocked for cars, but walkers still entering. |
Good to know. I was considering driving there from alexandria but concerned about crowds. |
