K registration and immersion lotto

Anonymous
Schools are now closed until 4/24, which is the deadline for entering the immersion lottery.

Does anyone know whether:

1. There is a way to register for K/get MCPS ID number that is not in-person and/or
2. Whether this deadline has been or will be extended?

Call the school and ask. Our ES has limited office hours, but they are in the office for scheduled times during the week.

We never got a slot, but the old system was registering for assigned school then entering lottery. I’d recommend emailing and calling assigned school & central office. Not sure if staff are working, but it’s worth a shot. You’re also in the same boat as other applicants. Depends on which school, but the lotteries are a crap shoot. Great if you get a slot, but odds are against it COVID or not. You could get lucky—it’s terrific for those who have this opportunity.

I got a kindergarten packet from my local es and the due dates were still the same for immersion.

Thanks for this post, which alerted me that there was new news!

The new news is: you can register to get an MCPS ID number online, via the link on this page:

https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/uploadedFiles/curriculum/specialprograms/admissions/COVER%20LETTER%20ONLINE%20ENROLLMENT.pdf

Docs you need to have ready to upload: 1. your ID, 2. proof of child's birthdate, 3. proof of residency, 4. immunization certificate. You'll have to re-present all of it for official registration at some future time; this DOES NOT count as having registered for kindergarten.

That generates (in 3 days or so) an ID number that you have to take back to fill out an Immersion Interest Form. THAT form is due May 8.

Good luck, all.
