St. Albans - Gilman Connection

Anonymous
At the conclusion of the 1990 lacrosse season, Rick Sowell, the Head Coach at St. Albans accepted an assistant job at Georgetown University. Since the announcement came so late and all the teaching positions for the following year were set, the job of coaching the 1991 Bulldogs fell to Rick's assistant and first year coach, John Nostrant.

At the conclusion of the 1991 season, and his two year contract fulfilled, John took a teaching job at Haverford School in the Philadelphia suburbs. His repacement as Head Coach at STA was Malcolm Lester.

Rick subsequently left Georgetown for Head coaching jobs at Dartmouth, St. John's University, Stony Point University and finally the US Naval Academy.

In 2019, having made Haverford one of the top five teams annually in the nation John announced that he would be stepping down as lax coach and Athletic Director at Haverford. He accepted the position of Head Coach at Gilman School.

At the conclusion of the 2019 season, Rick Sowell was relieved of his position at USNA. He was offered and accepted a position as an assistant at Gilman.

So now 30 years later, the assistant is the Head and the Head is an assistant.
