MCPS accepting donations to purchase chrome books

Our school made a big deal about broadcasting that they have a chrome book for every child. Now we need donations? Which is it MCPS?

Your school is not representative of each of the 201 schools in the County? Both can be true at the same time? As they send them home with people some will get broken/lost, etc. People want to help at this time, so might as well give them a way to do so? Lots of possible answers.

? I didn't get a communication from MCPS asking for donations.

We didn't get a request for donations, but our ES is in a rather well-off area. They're doing Chromebook handouts today and I'll be surprised if even 10 kids come up to ask for them. Maybe they'll donate the extras to the schools in need.

My friend is getting three today. She said the line is a mile long.

We need to contact Bezos and Gates!

Maybe Bezos can get every kid who needs one a Chromebook through Prime.

I think they basically parents were offering to donate so there was an announcement about how to do that.

I suspect that once they get through the first round of distributions and if there are more people contact wanting Chromebooks they will do a second round.

Maybe they can give them to students in other schools OP.

People will take them because they are "free." People who can afford to buy them and choose not to are selfish. They should do the first round based off free lunches/food stamps or other qualifiers first and then do around two for everyone else.

Interesting. My district gave our chromebooks, but it was 1 per family, not per kid. Yes, they have to share.

This is NOT snark: I genuinely don't know the answer to this and hope folks can educate me.

I'm assuming the Chromebooks are expense paid by taxpayers - is there a way that Montgomery County taxpayers can see where and how technology expenses are distributed to schools across the county?

Taking this metric further, does the county have to state their reasoning for making distributive decisions?

Thank you in advance for any insights you can provide; new to this area and trying to understand this system.

I believe it's part of the textbooks/instructional materials category.

Normally such decisions are based on a published policy:
