I see a lot of complaints, but rarely any praise. Honestly I haven't seen a U.S. city or state do as comprehensive job as the Mayor (except for Cuomo).
Things I've noticed and appreciate about the mayor's efforts during COVID-19: - Daily Press Conference on COVID-19 and the city response - Mobile COVID testing sites outside of hospitals. - Evictions halted - State/city income tax delayed to match federal guidelines - Business tax deferral - No utilities cut for city homes - Non-essential businesses shut down and ENFORCED - National guard deployed in select locations - Nightly updates on COVID positive numbers alongside deaths - Police cars deployed at strategic sites on a standing rotation - Authorization of $15M fund for city purchase of PPE, ventilators, and medical equipment - Constant updates on social media and the DC COVID-19 website I never have to wonder what my mayor is doing, I know because I can see it. |
| Umm it’s compatible to Va and MD. |

Her initial response was tepid, and that weekend when everyone descended on the bars and almost certainly spread the virus is on her hands. Only after the outcry did she harden her tone.
Praising her for doing the bare minimum is idiotic, but then again, Bowser is really, really good at doing the bare minimum. |
The Gov of Mississippi just issued a executive ordering CANCELLING all local shelter-in-place orders throughout his state. Trust me - you don’t know the meaning of bare minimum. He also wants to ban abortions during the crisis because... https://m.jacksonfreepress.com/news/2020/mar/24/gov-tate-reeves-orders-limited-gatherings-today-ex/ |
Louisiana has the fastest spread of COVID on Earth. MS borders it. TX, GA, and FL already have hotspots. Get ready for the south to explode. |
| Glad to see that Bowser’s flacks are on the job. |
So what are you complaints? I want to know. |
Her initial response was basically "be careful" even though every single guideline called for her to issue a stay-home order. Then a massive number of people were seen partying at bars, producing a horrible optic for her, so she changed her tune to "stay home." It was a typically reactive Bowserian response: She only leaps into action when she gets called out or when the optics are bad. |
I'm grateful for the things that she is doing, but I wish she were taking the same line that Hogan is taking. Also, DC is not doing nearly enough testing. Not even close. |
Then you haven't been paying attention. Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine was shutting everything down long before DC and everywhere else, when people thought he was wildly overreacting to coronavirus. She hasn't done anything that a lot of other people did first. |
You forget she was jet setting with Bloomberg while this pandemic was percolating. |

Here’s the amazing thing. Certain DC agencies like the Board of Zoning Adjustment are still accepting and calendariing development applications for later in April. This may seem ok, but the filings and hearing set-down usually trigger a whole public process in which local ANCs are supposed to meet and hold public meetings and can reach a determination (which the BZA and other DC agencies are supposed to give great weight under the law.). But ANCs are not meeting, public gatherings in the interim are essentially banned, and the result is that the public could be effectively shut out out important regulatory decisions that may affect them. Some DC agencies have put off new business that would trigger a public process, but all should do this right now.
Of Relevance for more DC residents, while governments are providing short-term deadline relief for taxpayers who may be cash squeezed right now, the March deadline for many people to pay DC property taxes has not been extended. Mayor Bowser? |
| Bowser was just interviewed on MSNBC. She was asked why DC lags so far behind many other jurisdictions in the availability of testing, and she couldn’t provide a clear answer. |
| She was pathetic. |
Or diplomatic. It's pretty clear what happens to the leaders of places that call out the Trump administration. |
