Do you think that summer classes will still happen?

My DC was hoping to stay down at her school this summer and take a couple of summer classes, including one with a lab (so, one that she would prefer to NOT take online). What do you think are the chances that universities will resume in-person classes by the summer time? Seems pretty slim to me.

I agree...but really no one on here knows (and you know that).

I guess people just want reassurance or support because all of these posts that amount to "can you predict the future, during an unprecedented situation" are not that useful from where I sit.

I think that people should act like normal summer activities will occur and sign-up/register for classes (assuming the places are registering), but not be surprised if they get cancelled. We will get back to mostly normal at some point, and keeping seasonal activities going (and the related businesses afloat) is important. If people don't register and things are open, then we still kill those businesses.

My university is online this summer. There is discussion to prepare for Fall being online too (just in case). Students do not know this yet but will soon.

I am praying. But I think on-line from NOVA is what will happen to my kid.

This is from Pitt:

[bold]Do we know what is happening with summer classes?[/bold]

Per the Office of the Provost, the planning for the summer sessions is continuing with the expectation that courses will be delivered remotely. We hope to get you more updates about which classes in biology we will be able to offer.

If you are currently enrolled in a summer course at Pitt, here are some things to consider:

Think about a backup. This may include adjusting your academic plan or asking for permission to take online courses elsewhere to transfer back.

If the course ends up being cancelled, drop the course, and then you will get a refund if you paid your bill.

If you decide to not stay enrolled in the course, make sure to drop it before the end of the add/drop period for that session to not be held financially obligated.

I definitely wouldn't count on summer. Maybe fall.

GW announced this morning that "courses will meet in an online format throughout the summer and that some classes previously scheduled may have to be canceled."

My son's large state flagship (big ten) just announced summer would all be on-line.

I am at a local university. We already know we will have online classes only this summer

My son is supposed to start his freshman year out-of-state this fall. We just looked at the summer and fall schedules at NVCC today in the event he needs to do that until regular social interaction is possible.

DS has to take a class with a lab (prereq for other classes) this summer in order to graduate on time. I really hope it’s not cancelled! Online isn’t great but better than nothing.
