I am interested in what philosophy the parents on this board would prefer for a full time preschool serving infants through 6 year olds. if price and location were the same would you prefer a Reggio approach or a Creative Curriculum. |
Creative curriculum is what they use in Kindergarten. Without a doubt creative curriculum. |
Reggio |
I love Reggio for ECE. |
The curriculum doesn't matter. What matters is having great teachers. |
+1 I’ve worked in schools with both and teachers are what matter |
Since Reggio is an approach as opposed to a curriculum, it can co-exist (if necessary) with different curricula. The Reggio inspired approach is HOW education is done. Creative or other curricula is WHAT children are taught. A few schools in DCPS are Reggio inspired but they use the Creative Curriculum. If you choose to be truly Reggio inspired then you would adopt and EMERGENT curriculum where the children and their interests drive the curriculum. Hope this helps. |
How does Reggio work with infants and toddlers? Everything I’ve read is about kids who are able to express their interests. When I try to look up Reggio for toddlers I can only find examples of kids playing with leaves and stuff, not actual classrooms and groups. Do Infant/toddler programs exist? |
That is because it is not appropriate for infants and toddlers. The pro Reggio on this site are mainly teacher’s and directors of schools using Reggio. Kindergarten teachers would prefer Creative Curriculum. |
I am pro Reggio and not the least bit affiliated with teaching - I'm an accountant. But I agree it's not for infants. My Reggio preschoool starts taking kids at 18 months +. |
+1. If you're deciding on a preschool, ask to sit in on a class and watch the teachers. |
for preschool we've done both and reggio ++++++++++++++ |
Relative curriculum is what is used in elementary school. Reggio is also not good for toddlers. |
Curriculum doesn’t really matter that much, don’t drink the preschool koolaid. Watch the teacher. Do the kids adore her? Are they engaged? Are the grounds safe? Do they get enough outdoor time? That’s all that matters. |
These are the most disheartening responses I have ever read about Reggio! How could a child-centered and interest-based APPROACH be inappropriate for ANY age group?! |
