Preschool and Daycare Discussion
|
Hi-
We have our 5 month old son in a home based day care, and although we've been trying to work with the provider, we just don't feel like it's a good fit. The provider is understaffed and it seems as if our son is being somewhat neglected- he's given a bottle whenever he cries or fusses instead of them playing with him or trying to find some entertainment. (which is also teaching him that whenever he cries he gets a bottle- not good!) We've tried to stress the importance of keeping with his feeding schedule, but it's being ignored and he's being overfed (he definitely doesn't need 18 oz in a 4 hour time frame PLUS cereal!) When he's not being fed, it seems as if he's "napping" in a crib, swing, or his carseat. Based on the daily reports he gets, when he isn't eating, he's only awake about an hour out of the day- very unlike his normal behavior. We know our son, and he certainly doesn't need to nap 85% of the day. Plus I don't like coming into the daycare and seeing him in his carseat with a bottle sitting on his chest that he can't even hold on his own while he's unattended. I've also seen other kids just left in a swing for long periods of time and not being attended to. I understand the providers can't hold every baby at all times and there needs to be some flexibility, but from what I've seen it goes beyond that. So, bottom line, it bothers us to have to leave DS when we're not sure he's getting great care. Can anyone recommend their at home provider? We live in Alexandria off 395 and Quaker, in between Fairlington and Old Town, and would love a provider somewhere in that area or within a few miles. Thanks in advance! |
| I hope that you find someone. I am near you and am still looking for my son as well. |
| Would you be interested in W. Falls Church? |
| I don't have a recommnedation for a provider, but when you find one please call DSS and report your current provider. What is going on there is not supposed to be happening. |
| Sounds like you need to move, and fast! Infant Toddler should be able to give you a list of providers in your area with openings. Even if your current provider is with them, you may have much better luck with another one. |

I moved my son because of this exact problem. Little care, he was in the swing when I dropped him off and picked him up and often was bottle propped, which is against code. It felt very impersonal and rude like he was a burden... so annoying. Luckily we found a provider that is a SAHM and she is awesome, problem is she's moving in February so we need to find a new provider.
I am in Falls Church an looking in the area and towards Arlington. Does anyone have any recommendations??? |
Unfortunately, it's a bit too far away for us- DH and I both work in DC, so heading back and forth from W Falls Church and DC would be difficult. |

| Would you be interested in a nanny if we could arrange a share? I have an 8-month-old and we are looking for an alternative to our current care as well. We live in Alexandria (west end) near Landmark. |

I would be interested in Nanny share around Landmark for my 6 month old son. please email me at vadaycare16@gmail.com
Thanks!! |
| i am close to huntington metro. If that would work for you, you can email me at mnchkds1@aol.com |
| I am looking to do a nannyshare. I read the daycare section because I want to see what goes on. I am a nanny but use to work in daycares. Well I am a unemployed nanny at the moment. I hate bottle propping, leaving kids in swings and play pens and so forth. Anyhow you could get a really good nanny for the cost of 2 in daycare. just a thought ananny |
