For this upcoming mess?

Good question! I read they might re-open Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park for the same reason.

two hospitals won't be enough. they need to utilize other public/private buidlings - hotels, schools, gym, empty buildings and such. schools make the most sense

They won’t be going to the restrooms anyway.

There are lots of empty buildings all over DC and MD and VA. I wonder what shape they're in, though, if they've been closed for any period of time.

You can’t just take empty buildings and put people in them!

There’s fire codes. Plumbing issues. Electrical infrastructure problems. HVAC problems. Water damage. Mold.

When a building sits unused and unoccupied, it rapidly deteriorates.

You can’t just open it back up and put people in it. Not in today’s sue-everyone society, you’d never get insurance and the lawsuits would bankrupt a city that did this.

Blame the lawyers. It’s their fault. They’re the reason you can’t just do stuff like this.

Providence barely closed, it was still operating as urgent care clinic

Trust me, if they are willing put people in tents, they will put people in empty buildings. Haven’t you seen the Army is setting up tents all over DC area?

Hasn’t the site been sold for vibrant mixed-use transit-oriented development?

Washington Adventist is being reopened.

I've read that it is under discussion. Ask the DC govt to continue pushing for it! Ask your councilmember and the mayor. Tweet at them.

You mean: blame people who care that other people don’t die. Because we all have agreed on those laws.

Rule of law has never been so important on this country. Without it, Bill Barr lets his cronies off, and Jared Kushner and his family steal our money.

And people die when buildings fall on them.

I would assume this is in the works to handle COVID-19 cases only.
