Weight gain at 25 weeks

How much did you gain by then? I've gained 18 pounds.

It's my first pregnancy; no stretch marks at all but I know I'm hardly out of the woods yet.

Is your doctor ok with your gain? Baby healthy so far? You’re healthy? Then don’t compare to others, it is a useless thing to do.

Also stretch marks have Little to do with weight gain, it’s all genetics. There are people who gain very little that get them and people who have twins that don’t get them

I was told between 15 and 40 lbs over the course of the entire pregnancy with the higher weight for someone who started off as underweight.
It's basically a myth that you're supposed to gain 60 to 100 lbs.

If your doctor hasn't mentioned anything you're fine.

I don't think anyone believes you are supposed to gain 60 to 100 lbs. That is a lot. I don't know anyone who thinks that.

Yeah, 100 lbs is massive weight gain. Many people would be bedridden at 100 lbs gain.

If 60-100 is a myth, it’s a myth I’ve never heard. 25-35 with some caveats is the standard number dr’s tell you.

I over gained on both my pregnancies- 45 with the 1st and 50 with the 2nd. 1st one just gave me a small fist-sized patch of stretch marks right below my belly button. 2nd grew that patch plus a bit above. They’re my warrior stripes. A bit of saggy skin remains too, almost 4 years later, exacerbated by the c section scar. I could tummy tuck it away but it doesn’t really bother me.

I know what pp meant. There's still people claiming eating for two. I have definitely heard women saying they gained 80 to 90 lbs and it's is totally the norm for pregnancy and we have celebs reinforcing that belief .

I don't think pp was saying doctors told her to gain 100 lbs

Agreed. I have members of my extended family (less access to education, less access to doctors) who believe they should fatten up while pregnant and believe all weight gain is good gain. Not sure they would say 60-100 pounds precisely, but the underlying belief absolutely exists.

ETA: they also believe a woman’s natural size after having kids is 12 to 16.

Ill be 25 weeks tomorrow. I started out overweight. I lost 7 pounds as of week 15 (turned off food + no alcohol) and gained 8 back since then for a net of +1. My OB is fine with this. Recommendations say I can gain up to 25 pound. I have read much of it happens in the 2nd trimester and is associated with increased blood volume and other fluids.

Every time this topic comes up I paste this link bc I found it very helpful: https://expectingscience.com/2017/11/14/five-little-known-facts-about-pregnancy-weight-gain/

Talk to your doctor if you’re concerned. Normal is a wide range. Don’t obsess, eat well, and move your body daily. That is all you need to do.

I'm 25 weeks and have gained 18-20 pounds. Some of that is definitely in my breasts. Just noticed stretch marks tonight on either side of belly button.
