My DCs’ charter school is amazing!

Everyday this week has been phenomenal. These teachers are working so hard to provide resources, daily classroom meetings, individual sessions, and office hours where my emails have not gone unanswered for more than an hour.

In the time of anxiety and worry, I’m over here applauding!

If online charter school is so great, then what's the point of in-person charter school?

Great if homeschooling works for your family. Congratulations.

That's great! The only thing that made us leave your charter school, OP, the "gun in backpack" incident, is also out of the way, so congrats! (Not being sarcastic here at all.)

What's the point? A few things but there are many more. Socialization. Chemistry lab. Gym. Organized athletics. Hot lunch for students who need it. Parent's able to work outside of the home and work with less interruption inside of the home.

Just because an online school is great it doesn't mean regular in-person school should go away.

Mostly this. Plus a safe space for kids' whose homes aren't safe.

DCPS returns from Spring Break on Tuesday, so give us some specifics on what is working really well for your family! We need all the suggestions we can get. I wear a school leadership hat and parent one, as well.

Not OP, but I’m going to guess DCI. They created a distance learning schedule that was put in place immediately after the shutdown. Teachers hold live class on zoom, and assignments are posted in google classroom. Teachers also have office hours on Fridays.

I was thinking YY. They are doing live classes.

We’re a Yu Ying family and I am in awe. Last week the teachers had coordinated three days of educational activities through various apps and things they upload, plus group chats and check ins with teachers. It is a lot for the parents but at the same time the teachers are incredibly supportive and my kids are enjoying it.

I hope YY is taking into consideration that some of those teachers have kids of their own at home. Kind of impossible to do both.

YY teachers are amazing and can handle having kids of their own at home will teaching. Most teachers wouldn't be able to, but that's yet another thing that sets YY apart from all the rest.
